The Galaxy Grand: new mid-range Smartphone from Samsung

On 18 Dec 2012 Samsung announced its new mid-range 5-inch smartphone called the Galaxy Grand which is similar to Galaxy Note II

Samsung is all set to charm all those who live fast-paced mobile lifestyles and have an undying demand far more from their smartphone than a standard mobile user with its new Galaxy Grand series. The Samsung Galaxy Grand is the latest big-screen Android smartphone, which runs on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. It should mean that its performance should be smooth and lag-free with Project Butter. This phone is similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note II (the company's 5.5-inch-screen phone). Although the Galaxy Grand has a large display of 5 inches and 480 x 800 pixels resolution, many of its specifications fall short compared with the Samsung Galaxy Note II. This is a mid-range phone and its pricing is expected to be anywhere from $100 to $150 with a contract in US.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand is a big screen android phone with a high-resolution display. It runs on a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor of unknown breed.  It consists of 1024 MB RAM and has (4G) fast mobile data support. Galaxy Grand has 8 GB of internal storage and up to 64 GB of extendable external storage through microSD and microSDHC slots.  It comes with 2 cameras: a 2 megapixels front-facing camera and 8 megapixels at the back. Flash features include Back-illuminated sensor (BSI) and auto-focus, which gives better shots in low-light conditions and is capable of recording 1080p videos. Other feature includes quick internet connectivity, multimedia, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, unlimited entries in phone book, Caller groups, Multiple numbers per contact, Search by both first and last name, Picture ID, Ring ID; Calendar, Alarm and Calculator facilities. It supports SMS, MMS, Threaded view, Predictive text input messaging services and IMAP, POP3, SMTP, Microsoft Exchange for email options.

The sensor features include Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Voice commands, Voice dialing and Voice recording.

Despite showcasing a big display, the Samsung Galaxy Grand remains modest in terms of its design, size, ergonomic, body width/slimness and comfortable grip. Thanks to its smart ‘Multi-Window’ feature, which enables a user to enjoy multitasking while running multiple apps all at once without the need to switch screens.
